I'm sure you've seen the adverts of Unlimited cards from Cineworld, Limitless cards from Odeon and more movie memberships. I have an Unlimited card myself with Cineworld and I get asked the usual questions from friends and family. Is it worth the money? How does it work? Where do I get one? What's the difference between the red and black cards?
So, I figured I'll write a product review around my experience with the Unlimited card.
How do I sign up for a Unlimited Membership?
Signing up for a Cineworld Unlimited card only takes a few minutes, then once completed the card will be sent to you in the post.
It can take a few days to arrive, but once signing up for the Unlimited card you can start using it right away. Make sure you have a printer handy as you can print your temporary Unlimited card.
How much does the Cineworld card cost you?
I pay a monthly fee of £17.90, this doesn't include Cineworld cinemas in London. Which is a drastic amount of money saved. As when I visit London, I never see a movie, I go for tourist attractions (which can be found in my Travel & Adventures page).
How does it work?
It is important to clarify what it does and doesn't include. When booking a 2D film it's free, as for 3D/iMAX films there is a small added charge (which differs on time and location), 4DX it's a considerable amount more.
You can only book 3 movies at a time, so it's best to not get too excited when some of the movies you've been waiting (what feels like a lifetime) for is now ready to book, as the majority of the time it's months away. You'll want to be able to book other films instead of just showing up at the cinema and booking the film then.
What is the difference between a red card and a black card?
The only real difference is the length of time you are a member and the increase in discounts. Red is the first card you'll get and you'll have this for a year. Black is the card you receive exactly a year after signing up.
The only difficult part of signing up for an unlimited membership is for the first year, you CANNOT cancel your membership. Only after the first year can you cancel the direct debit. When I first signed up I was at University and there was an Odeon in Lincoln, not a Cineworld so I wanted to cancel for a year but unfortunately I wasn't allowed (it's in the small print that no one ever actually reads).
Is it worth it?
A million times yes.
It has saved me SO much money in the long run. Sometimes you get those months where every possible movie you ever wanted to see is out and just buying one adult ticket is £11.50! By just watching one movie and a half, you've already made your money spent on the Unlimited card for the month.
It is perhaps the only direct debt outgoing that I don't want to cancel.
The only thing that seriously needs some work is the Cineworld app. I can't tell you enough how frustrating it is when I try to book a film and then the app crashes, or there is an error. To be honest, it's the same issues when booking on the website too. But apart from that, I think the Cineworld Unlimited card is completely worth getting.
